FYI: I just learned that Lion Brand discontinued the Color Made Easy line. But that won't stop me from making several of these hats for charity, making necessary adjustments for the #4 yarns that I have!

I have made two of these without the Pom Pom. When I close it at the top, my hat is still rectangular in shape. Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a way to shape it into a cone with the pom pom step?

Hey! I love your crochet patterns and especially your YouTube videos. They're clear and easy to follow... perfect for a beginner like me!

I was wondering if there was a way to accommodate for a medium yarn rather than a bulky yarn? I am crocheting beanies for some cancer patients near me and the list of recommended yarns doesn't include many readily available bulky yarns. Will the use of a medium yarn mean more chains or is this patter just not for smaller yarns?

I cannot figure out how to put it together. If I do it the way you say, the stripes are horizontal instead of vertical. And my size didn't end up being close to the same as your size. This is the most frustrating pattern I've tried to follow in a long time. I cannot figure out how to put it together. Need better instructions.

Hi! I’m trying this pattern as part of my donation for a Winter Clothing drive. I’m using the same weight yarn and hook size but I’m getting large gaps in my stitches, unlike your pictures! Should I go down a full hook size? I don’t like big holes as it’s cold here in Canada and the hats need to be warm.

Thanks a lot for this pattern! I have made sooo many hats and they never ever end up fitting or looking the way I hoped. But I nailed tjis one! Although I had to adjust the size because my daughter’s head is small for her age and she did not want it that high or bulky, also I never have the right kind if yarn. But it worked and I am really happy with it!

In reply to MaryAnn Parker. That sounds like it's a problem with your gauge. Not everyone's tightness and stitch sizes are the same. Most patterns, including this one, include measurements so you can check your gauge and adjust accordingly so that you wind up with the same measurements. Work up a 4 inch square in the yarn with your hook, and count stitches. It should match the gauge given in the pattern: Gauge: 5.25 rows = 4” 11 dc = 4” If not, then you'll need to either size up or down to get the desired effect.

In reply to MaryAnn Parker. You need a shorter foundation row if you are using a thicker yarn. You will likely need to experiment until your piece is 14 inches long. Good luck! P.S. Write down how many chains you used for your foundation so you can do it again if you want to.

Hello and thank you for such a cute pattern! I have read directions several times , very easy.
Here is my problem. I am using a bulky yarn and size 11 hook as directed. But when I make the foundation row 39 dbl. crochet, the vertical lines wind up going the 19” length not the 14” length. If I were to fold it in half I would wind up with 3 open sides for lines to go vertical as you show in pictures.
This is a simple pattern, what am I doing wrong?

I like be my beanie! But it took me 3 days! Lol. I’m very new to crocheting. I knew in my heart I this would take me long ne’er then a hour and a half This being my first attempt on anything other then a dish cloth.
