In reply to Deb. Ah, I'm so bummed, this yarn is being discontinued! I think Lion Brand is having a hard time with their supplier. So I'd grab the Rewind yarn you can find and then plan to use alternative yarns as well. Checking yarnsub.com for replacement options might be a good idea. Hope that helps! Jess

Hi Jess! I made this hat for my daughter and have a rave reviews. I have been requested to make a few more. However, I bought the kit last time and there were some good choices of color. Now....not so much. Will this change in the future, or where would you suggest I go online for more choices.....Thank you in Advance. Also, just completed your Rectangle sweater.....another hit! Your instructions are sooooo easy to follow 🙂

Hi! Love your hat! I have a question about crown size...the diameter before increases is 6.2”...but all the guides I have seen have adult female at 7” at least, I think 6” is usually stated for child. Is this yarn quite stretchy? It’s the first time I am using it! I had to use a 4.5mm to get the 3” gauge, so now I am worried I missed something (wouldn’t be the first time!) as this seems like such a small crown. I hate to keep going and then have to frog it! Lol! Hoping for a little reassurance I guess...

Just finished my fedora. I am thinking my brim has too many rows and it is very heavy. It doesn't stand out as yours does. I made the small. Could you tell me how many inches is your brim? Approximately. Before I start pulling out rows.....I love the hat I just think the brim that I made is too big

In reply to CM. Thanks for that tip. I didn't know that. I don't see how much human contact would occur with this rope outside from cutting it and holding it in place while crocheting. Once it's in the hat, it shouldn't really be accessible to touch your skin much. I appreciate you pointing this concern out. :) Jess

In reply to Hazel. I think you'll find that it defaults to rounded and that to make it the fedora shape, you just need to shape it with your hands. So I think you'll like it as written and just style it a bit differently than I did in the photos. :) Jess

In reply to Taryn MacDonald. Just continue to decrease your hook size--it's totally acceptable! :) Honestly, gauge is super personal and changing your hook size doesn't mean anything is wrong. The stitches are intended to be worked quite tightly, so using a smaller hook will likely help you do that. Happy crocheting!

You can use a cotton yarn as well. People are having good results with Lion Brand Re-Up. Just be sure to check your gauge with whatever yarn you sub so that the finished hat fits. 🙂

In reply to Jacki. I'd try taping the ends to the overall circle with electrical tape. :) I wear my hat often and have had no issues of the wires poking me or cutting the yarn so I hope that's the case for you too! Jess

I made my Fedora using the galvanized wire rope and overlapping the ends by 2 to 3 inches. The problem that I am having is that the ends of the wire keeps sticking out between the stitches and I have to stretch the brim and re feed them back through the stitches of row 17. I am afraid that over time the edge of the wire will cut my yarn. How do you prevent this from happening and keep the wire securely in place???

I made this hat, tore it apart 2 times before I actually got the sizing right. I dont believe i am a loose crocheter, but i had to go down two hooks i think. I really cant remember now. But it was easy to do and instructions perfect as always. I bought the natural and the black yarn. Have yet to make the black one.

NOT ARTHRITIC FINGERS FRIENDLY!! Just to let anyone know who intends to make this pattern, you have to really pull your stitches tight. I have very mild arthritis in my hands and only 8 rounds in building the crown, I have had to stop for a good break. So...just a cautionary note. It's cute as the Dickens, but it's not going to go nearly as quickly as I had expected. BUT...I will press on at least some each day.

Hi there! I absolutely love this pattern and just had to try it. In starting the top circle of the hat my attempt always ends up way too big. I am using size 5 yarn and even tried a second time with a 5mm, size 8 hook. I am keeping my stitches tight, but still the circle ends up way bigger than yours did. Do you have any ideas on what I might be doing wrong? Thank you!

I kind of accidentally saw thus picture somewhere...and "ran" right to it!!! This hat us EXCRUCIATINGLY awesome and all I could see was my little sister under the brim. She also mostly grew up in Colorado (in the 70s). I was a teenager during those 10 years. But we both wore leather quasi-western hats! Ok... my question...what color is the one you are wearing in the photos??

I love hats especially the Cleo Fedora! I am thinking about crocheting the fedora but I am a little confused by your instructions. After seeing your video about stiffening the brim it looks like you are crocheting with 2 strands together. I have read the instructions a couple times and can't tell if the entire hat is crocheted using 2 strands together or if it is just on the brim. Can you clarify this for me please.

I so love this hat! I so badly want to make it. I ordered Lion Brand Rewind directly from Lion Brand and after waiting 4 weeks and them billing my credit card, I contacted them to see where my yarn was. They in turn told me it was on back order until October 2020! Needless to say I cancelled the order. Can you suggest any other yarn for this pattern?

I started the fedora tonight, but I am confused about round 7. It says "Round 7: [2 sc in marked st, sc in each st to next marker] 6 times. (42)" I have marked the first stitch in each row, but I don't see how that helps me to know where to put the 2 sc stitches. Unless I did something really wrong, they are fairly close together. It looks to me as if I would start the row as 2sc, 1 sc, 2 sc, 1 sc, etc, having all of the 2sc stiches in the first part of the round. Is this right? Wouldn't that make this round bow out some? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't crochet much in the round, so it feels strange to me. Any direction you can give me would be most appreciated.

Absolutely love the look of this hat. I ordered from LB the yarn in two colors. However I have to ask are you a tight crocheter? Becuase the first time around the hat was HUGE!! so i dropped down to H hook and still huge. so i went to a G and my rounds afer row 7 was 6.25 i thought close enough, after row ten of the bucket i plopped on my head and i could tell it was still going to be a bit loose so i dropped my hook to F! to continue with out frogging it again. I think i will jump back to a G hook once i srart on the brim. Im gonna make it work, i just love this hat.

Hi,
I was wondering about the galvanized wire rope. I know that galvanized steel wire is not intended for human contact. The inexpensive galvanized wire is tempting to use for jewelry making but it isn't advised since it is potentially toxic. I would love to make this hat.
