In reply to Rebecca Hovan. I think this would be tough to make into a messy bun hat because you need to cinch the rectangle closed to make it into a hat shape. You might be able to try using elastic thread to close the top of the rectangle and leave it more open for a ponytail to fit through. Lmk if you try, I'd be interested to see how it works! Jess

Not a dumb question at all! Usually fur pom poms have a little loop of elastic that allows you to sew your yarn through them to secure the pom pom. I also like to just tie them to the top of the hat and tuck the yarn tails into the top of the hat in case I decide I want to remove it and use a different pom pom. 🙂

In reply to Grace. Hey Grace, I think you could by using a technique similar to adding crochet ribbing. Here's a ribbing tutorial that might help. Otherwise, you could use post stitches (front post double crochet and back post double crochet, for example) to create ribbing in a new color. Hope that helps! Jess

So this might be a dumb question, but how do you put a faux fur Pom on the hat? I didn’t see specific instructions and wanted to find out before I tried to buy one. Did you ever remember what mix dog breed your dog nephew is?
Still wondering what my sweet stray dog mix breed was.
His eyes, coat, build ears are the same, but not the pattern on his legs, he had a buff under belly and under his neck and his tail formed a question mark. I named him Dingo because he reminded me of the wild dogs of Australia.

Thank you for this pattern, it looks like a fun challenge. I won't have trouble finding yarn of various amounts and colours. I made a temperature blanket (knitted) in 2022 and kept all the yarn left-overs in one big tote so now I can just grab that and start playing...no sorting of yarn types required, it's all the same weight of acrylic yarn. I do especially wish to express my gratitude to you for the excellent and detailed instructions that you provide for your patterns. That is a very time consuming activity in itself for you but so helpful to us 'yarners'. You are so creative and generous.

Just a note. On row 8 you have the total stitches as 120. I took out that row 3 times trying to come up with 120 stitches then saw row 9 has 110. Lol. Anyway just wanted to send a note. Love this sweater and hope it turns out half as nice as yours.

Hello Emily,
I love your pattern for the Maple Cardi. I am almost finished, but I cannot figure out how to do the shoulder seams. It appears that the ribbing from the front goes all the way up to the top of the shoulder, and instructions say match up tulip stitches as you go. Not how many stitches you should stitch across. Please help me out, perhaps with a pic of the front and nape of the neck. In your pics I cannot see that area, as your blonde hair is hiding it.

In reply to Heather. The reason the blanket is turned at the end of each round is to avoid creating one right side and so that the fabric all matches once you start adding the corner sections. (If you work the star only in the round without turning, you'll still have to turn your rows when you begin squaring off the corners. I didn't want the mix of textures.) Hope that makes sense! Jess

Hi Jess,
I just bought this pattern, can you please help me with the !! Gauge Check !!?
I've done the gauge 14 Tss =4" and 12 rows =4" using the 8mm hook, and it matches. Am I good to go will my size match the one in the pattern?

How do you keep the short yarn pieces from pulling out of the "belt"? I cinched the belt as tight as I could and tied it, but the pom pieces still keep pulling out. If I can't get them to stay in, I just wasted my last little bit of the color I need for the decorative work. Project is for a toddler, so they really need to stay in.

I think this has to be the case. I have taken mine out twice now, and still somehow end up with an extra puff set. But reading your post has made me realize. It also makes the middle for the eyelets appear to match more of what's in the picture.

Why is there turning at the end of each round? I've never heard of that before in more than 40 years of crochet! As I don't like the look o turning, is there any harm in continuing each round without it ...and having a constant looking 'right side'?

I have been crocheting off and on for 75 years. I’m not very fast but I have been working on this hat for several hours for two days and I’m still not finished. When I saw 1 1/2 hours I thought I could make them for the 8 small children in my life but I’m glad I didn’t invest in all the yarn I would need. Your instructions are very clear and I love the hat.
